Valledolmo in a turbulent time

In 2013, Vincenzo Battaglia, a resident of Valledolmo and a very knowledgable man, wrote and compiled Pagine Valledolmesi Orme Incancellabili: Per Sapere e Ricordare (Valledolmo Pages - Indelible Footprints: To Know and Remember). In its three hundred plus pages are many photographs and some essays about Valledolmo.  His essay on the farmers’ movement of Sicily in the late 1800s throws light upon the conditions in the village during the years when many Valledolmesi immigrated.  It is of immense help to the family historian who wants to know more about the world of his or her ancestors. I have presented it here in two forms: English and Italian.
